December 18th in commemoration of International Migrants Day, Serviço Jesuíta aos Refugiados (JRS) launched the 3rd edition of the "White Book on the Rights of Immigrants and Refugees in Portugal". The book is based on JRS' direct experience with immigrant and refugee people and from the day-to-day work with legal and integration issues, the 2022 White Book is an analysis of the current situation of migration and asylum in Portugal.
The White Book 2022 has real testimonies of immigrants and refugees, explaining and clarifying their rights according to Portuguese law, evaluating the legal changes made this past year and JRS recommendations for the political decision makers.
The most important issues related to migration in 2022 are considered: amendments to the Foreigners Act and Asylum Act, consular network reform, issues of detention of foreign nationals, obstacles to regularization and ac this to rights, and SEF extinction and restructuring from public administration.
The 2022 White Book is an instrument to help respond to the mission of “Accompany, Serve and Defend Immigrants and Refugees”. It is intended to be a starting point for the adoption of new policy measures that will voice the concerns of immigrant and refugee people, hoping to contribute to the public discussion of topics that seriously affect their process the integration in Portugal.
