Times long ago, BirMasan (the monster's head) came from Triveni (the confluence of three rivers), and he travelled the surrounding area with his forces, the fire ghosts. His forces had to show the route with fire torches. Bir Masan would start at MasanGhat in Bhalukhola Dobhan (a cremation site at the confluence of the Bhalu and Hiu Kholas); Ranke Bhoot would point the way ahead, and the Bir Masan would travel uphill through Kattike to Gire Danda, Karki Chhap, and cross the hill from the Bhalukhop. Then the Bir Masan used to go to the Sabha Dovan (the next cremation palace at the meeting point of the Khekuwa Khola and the Sabha Khola). Generally, the Bir Masan does no harm to people, but he might fall ill and die when people come under his shadow.
